Air-Gap Architecture

SafePal S1 takes a radically different approach to security. The device has no USB data connection, no Bluetooth, no WiFi and no NFC — it's completely isolated from any radio-frequency or wired communication. All transaction signing happens via QR codes scanned between the device's camera and your phone.

This means even if your computer is fully compromised by malware, it cannot reach the private keys. The attacker would need physical access to the device, which would trigger the self-destruct mechanism — SafePal erases all keys if it detects tampering, incorrect PIN attempts or physical intrusion.

Transaction Workflow

Signing a transaction with SafePal requires a few extra steps compared to Ledger. You initiate the transaction in the SafePal app, which generates a QR code. You scan that QR code with the SafePal S1. The device displays the transaction details on its screen. You verify and approve on-device. The device generates a signed QR code. Your phone scans the signed QR code and broadcasts it.

This process adds about 30 seconds compared to a USB-connected workflow. For long-term holders who transact infrequently, this is a non-issue. Active traders may find it tedious.
