Green Wallet (also known as Blockstream Green) is a Bitcoin-first wallet developed by Blockstream, one of the most respected infrastructure companies in the Bitcoin ecosystem. It's available on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux.
By default, Green uses a 2-of-2 multi-signature setup: your key (on device or hardware wallet) and a key held by Blockstream's co-signing service. This means even if your phone is fully compromised, an attacker cannot steal your funds without Blockstream's signature.
Green's default 2-of-2 model works like this: to spend funds, you need both your key AND Blockstream's co-signing service to approve the transaction. Blockstream's service enforces a two-factor authentication (2FA) check — you must verify via email, SMS, Google Authenticator or a hardware key before Blockstream will co-sign.
This adds meaningful protection against malware. Even malware with full access to your device cannot steal funds without also bypassing your 2FA method.
For maximum sovereignty, Green also supports 2-of-3 mode where you control all three keys — no Blockstream dependency.
Green Wallet is the primary consumer interface for the Liquid Network — a Bitcoin sidechain developed by Blockstream. Liquid enables faster settlements (2-minute finality vs 60+ minutes for on-chain Bitcoin), confidential transactions and tokenized assets.
On Liquid, you can hold L-BTC (pegged 1:1 to Bitcoin), L-USDT (Tether on Liquid) and various tokenized securities and stablecoins issued on the network. For users operating in environments with high on-chain fees or needing faster settlement, Liquid is compelling.
Blockstream makes their own hardware wallet — Jade — which integrates natively with Green Wallet. Jade is an open-source, affordable ($65) hardware wallet with a color display. It supports both USB and Bluetooth connectivity and can function entirely air-gapped via QR codes.
Using Green + Jade gives you the full Blockstream stack: open-source software, open-source hardware and the Liquid Network, all integrated. This is arguably the most "Bitcoin sovereign" setup available to mainstream users.
Green Wallet is an excellent choice for Bitcoin and Liquid Network users who prioritize open-source software, privacy and multi-sig security. The built-in 2-of-2 provides meaningful protection at zero cost. Combined with a hardware wallet (especially Jade), it offers a complete, auditable Bitcoin custody solution. Not suitable for altcoin users or those wanting a DeFi-integrated experience.
