The World's Most Popular Crypto Card

The World's Most Popular Crypto Card
The Crypto.com Visa card is the most widely distributed crypto card in the world, with millions of cards issued across 40+ countries. Launched in 2018, it pioneered the model that most crypto cards now follow: a tiered rewards system where staking the platform's native token (CRO) unlocks progressively higher cashback rates and lifestyle perks.
The card is available in five tiers — from the free Midnight Blue with no cashback requirements to the Obsidian at the top, requiring a substantial CRO stake but delivering 5% cashback plus reimbursements for Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Prime, Expedia, and airport lounge access. The diversification of perks beyond pure cashback makes the card genuinely competitive with premium traditional credit cards for the right user.
Crypto.com has invested heavily in card infrastructure and has achieved broader geographic coverage than any competitor. The Visa network acceptance, combined with the card working through Apple Pay and Google Pay, means the Crypto.com card functions anywhere a regular Visa card does — which is to say, almost everywhere in the world.
The key consideration for prospective users is the nature of CRO rewards. Cashback is paid in CRO (Cronos), Crypto.com's native token, which has experienced significant price volatility. In 2021, CRO reached all-time highs near $0.93; in the subsequent bear market it fell below $0.05. Users who held their CRO rewards through the bear market saw the value of their cashback erode dramatically. Savvy users convert their CRO rewards to stablecoins or blue-chip crypto immediately upon receipt.
When you make a purchase with the Crypto.com Visa card, it spends from your Crypto.com fiat wallet balance. You need to top up the card in advance with fiat currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.) converted from crypto or deposited directly. The card does not automatically liquidate crypto from your portfolio at point of sale — you must pre-fund the fiat wallet.
Cashback is calculated as a percentage of eligible purchases and credited in CRO to your CRO wallet, typically within 1-3 business days of the transaction. The cashback rate is determined by your card tier, which is set by how much CRO you have staked in the Crypto.com Earn program for a minimum of 180 days.
Subscription reimbursements (Netflix, Spotify, etc.) are credited monthly after you show eligible subscription charges on the card. Higher tiers receive 100% reimbursement; lower paid tiers receive partial reimbursements. Airport lounge access is provided via LoungeKey on Rose Gold and Obsidian tiers.
CRO staking to unlock card tiers locks your tokens for 180 days. If you unstake before 180 days, your card is downgraded to the next tier down. This lock-up mechanism means users need to be confident in their CRO holding before committing to a higher tier, as the staked tokens cannot be easily liquidated if CRO's price moves adversely.
| Tier | Stake Required | Cashback | Perks |
|---|---|---|---|

Crypto.com holds several regulatory licences globally and processes card transactions through the Visa network's standard fraud protection infrastructure. The card app includes real-time spend notifications, the ability to freeze the card instantly, and transaction limits that can be set by the user. Crypto.com holds licences in the US (FinCEN MSB), EU (multiple national licences), UK (FCA cryptoasset registration), Singapore (MAS Major Payment Institution licence), and others. The company stores the majority of client funds in cold storage and has not experienced a major custody hack, though it did experience a $34M hot wallet hack in January 2022 that was fully reimbursed to affected users within 24 hours.
The Crypto.com Visa card is the right choice for users who want the broadest geographic coverage, the most developed perks ecosystem, and are willing to hold CRO for their rewards. The mid-tier Royal Indigo/Jade card — requiring only ~$250–500 in CRO and delivering 2% cashback plus Spotify and Netflix reimbursements — offers genuine value at a low stake requirement.
The top tiers are only worth it if you're a long-term CRO believer who sees value in the stake requirement. For users who are neutral on CRO, the high cashback rates are undermined by the token price risk on accumulated rewards. For maximum simplicity and zero token risk, the Coinbase Card or BitPay Card may be more appropriate alternatives.
